Surviving A Breakup or Separation, Dating After Divorce Advice, Relationship Advice Chat... Chin Up People

A story submitted from one of you BootCamp Peeps... Thanks and Hope it adds a little strut to your stride during tough times... (Our Advice to "Elton" from ~ Bootcamp Staff)

"Separated After 20 Years of Marriage"

by Elton

(Wichita, Kansas)

Approximately two weeks ago my wife told me she was unhappy and wanted to separate, as she needed to learn who she is. She stated that we have taken separate paths along the way, she loves me and considers me her best friend. She also stated that she thought I would be relieved that it came out.

Needless to say, I felt like I had just been kicked in the gut. Here I am only 17 months from retiring, I'm forced to move out and wait for her to decide what she really wants.

I do love her with all my heart and honestly never seen this coming. I want to give her the space she needs and let her think things through. I will be the first to tell you that we have had our share of problems, and I definitely share the blame.

What should I do? I have had sleepless nights, no desire to eat and I feel as though we should have stayed together and worked our problems out. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
